Hi. I am Evelyn, a Structural Integration Practitioner, therapeutic yoga teacher, and systems thinker. I love working with bodies of all shapes, sizes, abilities, ages, and variations. If you are suffering from acute or chronic pain, are feeling tight or stiff, or desire to feel more alive and comfortable in your body, I am here to help. |
What is Structural Bodywork?Structural Integration (SI) is a process-based approach to somatic wellness. It involves manual therapy (bodywork), somatic awareness, and education. Structural imbalances can lead to pain, discomfort, and limitations in movement. SI addresses these imbalances through bodywork techniques catered to support your body's unique structural patterns. These techniques include deep, methodical soft tissue manipulation that may seem similar to a massage but is actually quite different. Unlike a massage, SI is designed to move the body's soft tissue (known as fascia), allowing the body's bones to shift into their natural alignment. This relieves tension, pain, and discomfort while supporting you in having a deeper, more empowered connection to your body. |
What is fascia?
Fascia is an organ. In simplest terms, it is a thin casing of connective tissue that wraps around every bone, muscle, organ, blood vessel, nerve, and internal structure in the body. It contains nerves and pain receptors, making it almost as sensitive as skin What is the function of fascia? Fascia plays a key role in stabilizing the body's structure while also supporting the body in movement. It is the organ of stability and fluidity of movement! What is it important to move your fascia? Bad posture, misalignment, and repetitive movements can stress the fascia leading to sites of tension and the experience of physical pain. Unlike the heart, the fascial system does not have a pump. It requires either movement or manual manipulation to break it down. |
Structural Integration (SI) views the body as a holistically interconnected system.
It focuses on overall body alignment. This can alleviate the symptoms of misalignment arising in specific parts of your body. SI addresses the source of discomfort, not just the areas in which symptoms are present. This takes time. Much like the therapeutic model applied in mental health settings, real change takes time and consistency. This is why SI is applied in a process based format that takes place over a series of sessions. By aligning your whole body, lasting change happens. |
The process of Structural Integration involves a series of sessions (10-13).
The series format is a recipe designed to support the body's alignment. It allows us to attend to each part of the body’s physical structure--supporting change throughout the entire body. Session by session we align the body's parts. And then put those aligned parts back together. Through this process, we are able to support a more holistically integrated whole. |
We view the body as an integrative system, examining and manipulating its parts, the ways they interact, and how they affect one another. Each session focuses on a specific part of the body. They build upon one another, unraveling the body’s restrictive patterns systematically. |
